Area Location

Ajman is one of the seven emirates comprising the UAE, located on the Arabian Gulf in the Middle East.

With an area of just 260 square kilometres, Ajman is the smallest emirate by area. Its seat of government is the city of Ajman.

The emirate is surrounded to its north, south, and east by the emirate of Sharjah.

So heading south-west along the Arabian Gulf coast, from Ajman, you first come to Sharjah, then to Dubai and thirdly, Abu Dhabi . These last two are the two largest emirates in the UAE.

Even though Ajman is a coastal emirate, on the shores of the Arabian Gulf, it also has two inland enclaves, one at Masfut on the edge of the Hajar Mountains and the other at Manama, between Sharjah and Fujairah. They are primarily agricultural.

Approximately 95% of the population of the emirate resides in the city of Ajman.

The population was only 36,100 in 1980 but has grown a great deal in recent years, due to an influx of people from the neighbouring emirates of Dubai, Sharjah, and other countries around the world.

Ajman is ruled by Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi of the Al Nuaimi tribe. The Crown Prince of the Emirate is Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi.

Ajman has experienced massive development and a construction boom in recent years.

After the success of the marketing of freehold property in Dubai, Ajman was the second emirate to offer freehold property.

Ajman is currently the only emirate in the UAE offering investors of any nationality fully transparent, 100% freehold ownership of real estate.

This has attracted a huge number of investors, both (local and international, to this emirate. This in turn has prompted the Ajman government to initiate a number of development projects.

"New Ajman" is the name given to the area being developed outside of the current Ajman city, located along the Emirates Road.

New Ajman will consist of many new developments & projects envisioned by Chief of Municipality Sheikh Rashid Al Nuaimi.

One of the first developments of New Ajman is called "The Emirates City", a brand new city located directly on the Emirates Road to be built from scratch consisting of more than 100 mid- and high-rise buildings.

A number of shopping malls, hotels and residential villas are also planned to eventually extend all the way to the 'Al Zoura' area, where beachside developments are planned.

Even though a great deal of modern development is taking place, Ajman is renowned for a very traditional, ancient industry......dhow building!! It has the largest dhow building centre in the region.

A visit here is a great chance to see these massive wooden boats being built with rudimentary tools, using skills passed down through the generations.

The old souk too, is another traditional reminder of a slower-paced past.

Ajman has some great beaches and a very pleasant Corniche, along with an increasing number of modern facilities, including the Ajman Kempinski Hotel and Resort.

Al Ameera Village, a project featuring heritage-style residential buildings, a shopping mall and a hotel was completed at the end of 2007.

Ajman Museum is interesting and well arranged, with a variety of exhibits, including a collection of passports and depictions of ancient life, but it's the building itself that will impress most visitors.

It's a traditional fortress dating back to around 1775, which also housed the ruler of Ajman at one time. It has imposing architecture, with impressive watchtowers and traditional wind towers. It became a museum in the early 1980's.

The construction of the new Ajman International Airport started in the second half of 2008 in the Al Manama area of Ajman. Airport operations have started .
